Bury me in my buttery yellow tulle bolero.
It may be leather jacket weather, but why default to a strikingly average everyday object when you can wear an outrageously fluffy sheer delight? There’s only a few times a year when it’s tulle jacket time, and the moment is now. Think about it this way: tulle jackets look as perfect with a pair of jeans as they do with a formal outfit. They don’t need an occasion, because much like the big, big dress—they are the occasion. They’re a lavish indulgence that’s eerily easy to carry off.
The key to the tulle jacket is that it doesn’t come in merely one aesthetic. Take, for example, Simone Rocha’s rich gothic sequined floral jacket, or one of Molly Goddard’s spiky, immovable creations. There has been folklore and thousands of tales written about tulle skirts (i.e. the tutu) from Sex and the City to Swan Lake, but the tulle jacket? Far more revolutionary and unexpected.
A tulle jacket is the kind of thing I imagine Diana Vreeland, André Leon Talley or Sophia Loren wearing in our contemporary times. It’s very much a My Eyes are Starving for Beauty kind of thing. ALT had his custom kaftans but he’d look darling in a Molly Goddard tulle shrug, don’t you think?
